Couples Intensives

Couples Intensive Program

Couples Intensives are a great option for couples who would like to get a lot or work done in a short amount of time. There are two types of couples intensives-Marriage Therapy Retreats and a Jump Start Session. These sessions are highly recommended for the following couples:

  • Couples who want to revamp their sex lives. They are still happy with each other, they have just lost that spark.
  • Couples who are questioning whether to continue working on a relationship or terminate the relationship (Answering the question-Should I stay or should I go?)
  • Couples who have recently found out about an infidelity.
  • Couples who struggle to commit to weekly couples sessions across several months but can take off work for a short period of time.

Marriage Therapy Retreats

Couples attend a personal therapy retreat for 5 days, Monday through Friday from 9am to 12pm. The first day is a comprehensive marital assessment followed by a treatment plan for the week. The next four days focus on different couples skills to help improve your marriage based on the information gathered from the assessment. Each day, your therapist will give a homework assignment for you as a couple to work on before the next day.

At the end of the week, couples have a renewed sense of connection and an understanding of the work it takes to keep their marriage vital and healthy.

Marriage Therapy Retreats Costs $6000 for the week. A $3000 non-refundable deposit is required up front to book this session.

Jump Start Session

The jump start session is a one day couples intensive. Couples spend a full day working through their issues. The session goes from 9-12pm (3 hours) and then 1-3pm (2 hours). There is an hour break for lunch from 12-1pm.

The first section of the day is spent exploring your personal challenges and identifying your goals. You will go through a comprehensive couples assessment. You will get time to talk as a couple in session as well as some individual time with the therapist.

After the lunch break, your therapist presents you with a treatment plan. It will include things you can do at home to work on the issues and it will include 2 to 3 skills you will practice together over the next two hours of therapy.

A Jump Start Session costs $2000. A $1000 non-refundable deposit is required up front to schedule the session.

How do I schedule a couples intensive?

You call the therapist, Angela Skurtu, at 314-973-7997 for a free 10-15 minute consultation to see if this type of counseling is a good fit for you. Should you choose to do one of the intensives, you will be asked to put a non-refundable deposit down for the session. Your therapist will share with you the differences in pricing for each intensive.

Throughout the intensive, your therapist will . . .

  • Ask you about your goals for the relationship
  • Provide clear direction and action plans for how to meet your goals
  • Use research and evidence based treatment strategies (not opinion based)
  • Challenge you and your partner to change using a direct, non-threatening, supportive approach
  • Give homework assignments, reading material, videos or other resources to help you continue your growth beyond the couples intensive

Why Do A Couples Intensive?

Many of the couples I have worked with have said this is their favorite type of session. They spend all day or all week working with each other on their relationship. The traditional therapy sessions take time. You come in once weekly or once every other week for only an hour or 90 mins. Then it is another 2 weeks before you get back to your issues.

The couples intensive is designed to help you figure out how to resolve your issues. In one day, you cover everything that has been holding you back or getting in the way. Couples often leave this session feeling renewed energy and an appreciation for everything they have learned about each other.

They also learn a lot about how to communicate differently. Right away, your therapist points out ways you talk to each other that are ineffective or hurtful. Your therapist gently points out ways to shift your style that help your partner actually listen to you.

What if we can't afford the Price?

Your therapist has payment options available to help with the cost. Some couples can set up payment plans in which you split the intensive across several weeks or even a few months if needed. Ask your therapist about payment plans that may be right for you.
